New

Klay Live: share your session

Go Live from the Share panel to get an invite code; guests join on their own copy of your scene and follow every stroke in real time. Three room modes are available: Broadcast (you sculpt, guests watch), Pass the pen (one guest at a time takes control) and Co‑sculpt (everyone sculpts their own model in the same scene). Spatial voice chat is built in, with per‑guest volume and mute and push‑to‑talk. The connection is direct and encrypted, and sharing does not affect your own performance.

Top bar›ShareHosting requires a licence · viewing is free · same Klay version on both sides · save the scene before sharing
Physical atmosphere

The Sky is now computed from a physical atmosphere model (air, haze and ozone), so sky color and the key light stay consistent at every time of day. Includes eight presets, user presets, and artistic controls for horizon, zenith, sun glow and night.

Lighting›Sky›AtmosphereRequires the Sky light · inactive when HDRI over sky is on
Volumetric clouds

Three cloud layers (cirrus, altocumulus, cumulus/stratus) lit by the sun, with per‑layer height, coverage, wind and tint. Clouds appear in reflections, dim and soften the light as they pass the sun, and match in Raytrace. Eight presets are included, and Time scale 0 freezes the sky.

Lighting›Sky›CloudsOff by default · no cost while the sky is static · works in VR · requires the Sky light
Multi-axis and radial symmetry

Symmetry now supports X, Y and Z in any combination, plus radial repetition of up to 32 copies around a chosen axis. Applies to brushes, masks, topology refine and the Laser, on Clay and Polygone layers.

Top bar›SymmetryTopology symmetry remains two‑sided
Viewport stencil

Masks any brush (sculpt, paint, mask or Flood) through an image overlaid on the view. Controls include tiling, inversion, opacity, grading, warp and seam blending. With Color to paint on, paint brushes use the stencil's colors.

Toolbar›StencilBind a show/hide key in Settings › Shortcuts · mask only for texture paint · not in VR
Blend card with joint profiles

Blend and boolean operations on clay now run from the tool card (press C with two or more clay objects selected). Six joint profiles are available, including the new Groove, Weld and Inflate, each with its own settings and cross‑section curve.

Select 2+ clay objects›CReplaces the floating Blend bar · Extract takes exactly two objects
Promote stamp and falloff

The alpha stamp, the falloff curve and whole Brush tab sections can be promoted to the tool card, for all brushes or for the current brush only.

Brush›right‑click›Promote to EssentialsAll brushes, or just this one
Mask brush in the Brush tab

Selecting a mask tool shows the mask brush settings in the Brush tab, organized in sections, with mask operations as buttons and promotion to the Mask tool card.

Brush›MaskFollows the active tool
Reapply last stroke

Replays the last stroke along the same path with the current brush and settings. Each pass is a single undo.

Right-click a mesh›Reapply last strokeAlso in the radial wheel and action bar · not available for Grab, Snake Hook, cloth or paint
Flood the whole model

Applies the current brush over the entire model as parallel strokes, a solid coat or a cross‑hatch; Push mode offsets the surface instead. Masked areas are preserved, with a live preview before Apply.

Brush›FloodNot available for Grab, Twist, Elastique or Slide
Saved bake jobs

The Baker now stores bake jobs in the scene, each with its own target meshes, maps and settings. Bake runs the current job and Bake all runs every enabled job. Multiple meshes in one job bake to a single UDIM set, or to one set per mesh, with configurable file naming and output folder.

Baker›JobsRight‑click a job, or its ··· button, to rename, duplicate, reorder or delete it
Displacement and vector displacement

Displacement and vector displacement bake between a chosen low and high subdivision level, in tangent, object or world space, to 32‑bit EXR by default. A .json file beside each map records scale, midpoint and space.

Baker›Displacement / Vector displacementRequires multires levels · PNG now supports 16‑bit
Import layout in grid

Multiple imported models can be arranged in an even grid on the ground instead of stacking at the origin. One undo restores the original placement.

Import dialog›Layout meshes in gridOff by default
Lantern card on hold S

Holding S shows the Lantern card and returns to your brush on release. A new All lights group moves the whole rig; a single selected light moves alone. With the Sky selected, the drag controls sun azimuth, time of day and sky exposure.

Scene›tool cardHold S · left drag rotates and lifts · right drag moves the rig in and out
Focus LOD

With LOD enabled in Focus, unselected objects draw at a reduced level of detail (Low, Lower or Lowest) while the selection stays at full detail.

Focus›LODOff by default · needs Focus on and an object selected · large polygon models and frozen clay
Scale the light rig

Scale all resizes the whole light rig around the scene center while preserving brightness. Rotate all and Scale all have moved to the bottom of the Lantern tool card.

Lantern›Rotate all & Scale allArea light panels keep their size
Last four releases in What's new

What's new on the welcome screen now lists the current version and the three previous ones.

Welcome screen›What's new
Foveated rendering

Shades at full quality around the brush or screen center and at reduced rate toward the edges, improving frame rate on heavy scenes without lowering resolution.

Top bar›Display settings›Fov renderingOff by default · requires a GPU with variable rate shading · combines with the Resolution chips
Material and light docks

The Material tab has a bottom card showing the selection's material, and the material list is now a compact picker with usage counts. The Lighting tab has a matching card with the light list and all settings of the selected light.

Material›bottom cardLighting›bottom card
Shooting stars and satellites

Optional meteors, meteor showers and satellites for the night sky, with controls for rate, brightness, speed, color and trail length.

Lighting›Sky›Shooting stars & satellitesOff by default · background only, not in reflections or Raytrace

Improved

Rename, duplicate and delete lights

Right‑click a light in the Lantern card or Lighting tab to rename it inline, duplicate it or delete it. Names are saved with the scene and with light rigs.

Viewport background color in the theme

The color behind the model is now set under Settings › Theme › Color instead of in the Environment card. It is part of the theme, so loading a light preset or opening a scene no longer changes it.

Settings›Theme›Color
Panel transparency setting

Settings › Theme has a Transparency slider, 0 to 100 %, for how solid the panels are. Lower values let the sculpt show through the panels and their cards.

Settings›Theme›Transparency
Frosted glass behind the panels

With Blur behind panels on, a translucent panel shows a blurred copy of the sculpt instead of the sharp one. Amount, Strength, Quality and a Tint color sit under the toggle. Off by default.

Settings›Theme›TransparencyNeeds Opacity below 100 %
Automatic crash reports

After an unexpected exit, the next launch sends a short, anonymized log excerpt. It follows the usage statistics setting.

Settings›Privacy
Environment sampling on by default

Raytrace now samples the HDRI where its light is, so the shadow side of an HDRI‑lit render clears at a lower sample count. Existing scenes pick it up on load; the row can still be turned off.

Lighting›Raytrace›Environment samplingHDRI only
Specular color on metals

Specular color now also tints metallic reflections. A white specular color leaves results unchanged.

Material›Specular color
Ambient occlusion in Fast Unlit

Ambient occlusion now applies in Fast Unlit, with no cost when it is off.

Lighting›Ambient occlusion
American spelling of color

Interface labels now use "color" instead of "colour". Saved data is unaffected.

Undo object deletion

Deleted objects can be restored with undo, including their sculpt layers, masks and material.

DelCtrl+Z
Delete a whole group

Deleting a folder now removes it with all its contents in one undoable step.

Cloth follows the brush

Cloth brushes always take their motion from the brush operators. The Use brush operators switch and its dependent rows have been removed.

Brush›Physics
Reach brush section

Reach settings have moved from Stroke into their own section, which can be promoted to the tool card.

Brush›Reach
Custom button strip

A strip along the side panel edge holds the viewport buttons and user‑assigned buttons for any command. Buttons with a settings panel open it on hover.

Side panel›button strip+ to add, right-click to change
Panel tabs on the edge

The side panel's category icons have moved to a rail on its outer edge, giving each page more height. The rail stays visible when the panel is hidden.

No cut-off toolbar tools

Tool cards show only tools that fit; the rest are in the tool drawer and can be dragged onto the bar.

Bottom toolbar›Tool drawer
Stamp and Falloff in Polygone

The Polygone toolbar now has Stamp and Falloff buttons with live previews, favorites and library access. Image stamps display without their black background.

Bottom toolbar›Stamp
Compact Stamp, Falloff, Stencil buttons

These toolbar buttons are now half as wide, with a preview above the label. Stencil now has favorites in the tool drawer.

Bottom toolbar›Stamp · Falloff · Stencil
Multi-file and Klay scene import

Import accepts multiple files and Klay scenes; an imported scene's objects and materials are added in a new folder. Importing no longer moves the camera.

File›ImportShift or Ctrl‑click to pick several
Hold J for the Laser

Holding J uses the Laser temporarily and returns to the previous tool on release. Tapping J still toggles it.

Bottom toolbar›LaserJtap or hold
Faster Laser cuts

Laser cuts on large models are significantly faster, especially with symmetry. Results are unchanged.

Bottom toolbar›Laser
Sun and moon in Raytrace reflections

With a Sky light, the sun and moon now appear in Raytrace reflections and through glass, softening with roughness.

Lighting›Sky light›Raytrace
Resize the gizmo with + / −

Press + or − to resize the gizmo while it is visible. The size is remembered.

Settings›Shortcuts›Tools
Gizmo handle filter

The Gizmo card can limit the gizmo to Move, Rotate or Scale handles (keys 1, 2, 3). Holding E opens a wheel to choose the mode.

Navigation settings in Settings

Navigation options have moved from the Camera tab to Settings. Trackball no longer changes when opening a scene or switching cameras.

Settings›Navigation
Ground disk and grid alignment

The ground disk's top face now sits on the floor and thickness grows downward; the radial grid follows the disk. Both can be tuned from their chevron in the Room tab.

Room›Ground Disk / Radial Grid›chevronHeight 0 puts the disk’s top on the grid
Night sky: Milky Way and natural star distribution

The procedural star field now has a Milky Way band, star clustering and a realistic range of star brightness, set with the Milky Way, Clustering and Magnitude contrast controls.

Fixed

  • The side panel no longer shows a darker strip down its inner edge beside the tab rail, and every card in it now fades with the panel instead of staying solid
  • Raytracing settles again when there is fog, mist or weather in the scene: the picture used to start over on every single frame, so it never got past its first noisy pass and the denoiser never cleaned it — the rain, the clouds and the lightning now hold still while it resolves, and carry on the moment you move
  • In Raytrace, bright bounced and subsurface light keeps its color instead of shifting toward yellow or green
  • A lightning bolt is now one solid stroke: its joints no longer glow brighter than the rest, and every fork ends in a sharp point instead of a flat cut
  • The triangle beside a mesh in the scene list is no longer near‑white: an untagged object now wears the first color of the palette you tag it with
  • Projection no longer crashes in a big scene: with Source set to All it now uses only the isolated objects while you isolate, and it leaves out deleted meshes and meshes far from the target
  • Fast Unlit now shows only the viewport background color; the sky and the HDRI are no longer drawn behind the model
  • The Stencil card now has the same color and top fade as the tool card instead of appearing black
  • A light preset’s thumbnail now looks like the viewport you saved it from — the sky’s sun, the HDRI and its exposure included — instead of a rebuilt, dimmer version
  • Deleting an empty folder no longer deletes whatever you had selected before it
  • Background exposure in the Environment card no longer brightens the procedural sky in Raytrace — it is an HDRI control, and the Sky card’s own Exposure is what the sky answers to
  • Scrollbars in the side panel stay a slim handle when you hover them — they no longer grow a framed track with arrow marks at both ends
  • Opening a model straight from Windows — double‑click, or Open with — no longer brings the app up with half the interface missing
  • A custom falloff curve now bends smoothly through its points — even where a gentle stretch meets a steep one — so no more corner at a point, hard ring in the dab, or pointed centre
  • The crease cross‑section curve only shows while Crease is the dab shape — it no longer appears under Alpha, where it did nothing
  • Brush tab sliders drag again, Essentials included
  • Changing brush size or strength with the Brush tab open is smooth — the tab now catches up once you let go instead of redrawing on every step
  • A Brush tab slider shows its number changing while you drag it
  • The size slider’s max box is smaller, takes the number keypad, and the max you type now applies to every brush and is kept
  • Right‑clicking the empty space of the scene list now opens the create menu — Clay, Import, New group — even with an object selected, instead of that object’s menu
  • Masking with symmetry on now reaches the mirrored side whatever Reach the mask brush is set to — it only worked on Topology, so symmetry now uses Topology for you
  • A mask setting you promoted to the tool card now edits the mask brush you have picked — after switching from Mask to Layer it kept changing the old one — and its reset button works
  • Discard and Apply on the Lattice cage now do what they say — the bar used to stay up as if you had never pressed them
  • Stamping with Imprint no longer leaves a ridge of leftover clay beside the stamp when you turn or shrink it mid‑drag
  • Shadows keep up with an Imprint stamp while you drag it out, instead of going stale until you let go
  • Imprint depth now comes from the brush Strength alone, and its Warp slider covers only the useful range, so every part of it gives a clean result
  • Favorite falloff curves in the library now show their curve, instead of the same wave icon on every tile
  • UI scale now makes the interface smaller as well as bigger: on a screen running at 100% display scaling, 90% and 80% used to move the number and leave everything exactly as it was. There is an 80% preset too
