Klay 0.0.44

New

Absolute trackball

Trackball orbit has an Absolute option, matching Blender’s trackball. The rotation is measured from where the drag started, so a circular drag that returns to its starting point returns the view to its starting orientation. Orbit speed and the other Navigation values are kept separately for each mode, so each can be tuned on its own; at 1x the Absolute mode matches Blender’s default sensitivity.

Improved

Interface scale fits the monitor

The interface is sized from the monitor Klay is shown on and that monitor’s display scaling, and follows the window when it moves to a monitor with a different scaling. On a small or high-scaling display, Auto picks a smaller scale so the side panel and toolbar stay on screen. Settings › Theme › UI scale has an Auto option with a fit target; a percentage keeps a fixed scale.

Light size in highlights

A light’s Size, and an area light’s Width and Height, now show in its highlight as well as its shadow, in the viewport and in Raytrace. A larger light gives a broader highlight and an area light reflects as a panel; Highlight size sets how much of the light’s shape reaches the highlight.

Global controls in the Lantern card

Rotate all and Scale all now sit in their own Global controls section of the Lantern card. Selecting All lights no longer shows an empty section.

Fixed

  • A fresh install could open with the interface at the wrong size or the window off-screen, because the package carried the display settings of the machine it was built on. The window now opens maximized on the current monitor on first launch, and a saved window position that is off-screen is no longer restored.
  • Deleting the Klay folder in Documents, or its database folder, now restores the shipped content on the next launch
  • Switching to another application while Raytrace was refining could stop Klay or freeze the computer
  • Area-light highlights on subsurface materials rendered grainy in Raytrace
  • Joining a Klay Live session could show “Watching” when no connection had been made. The panel now reports what the join is actually doing, and says so when the host cannot be reached.
  • A Klay Live session can now be joined from a different version of Klay, as long as both share the same live format
  • A host whose router reported an open port could miss viewers that were unable to reach it, and never connect back to them
  • Smooth and Relax strokes now work on a low-polygon mesh such as the sample cube, and Clay dabs blend together there. Before, the mesh had to be subdivided or remeshed first.
  • On a narrow window or at a large interface scale, Tools and Mask tools that did not fit on the toolbar could be missing from the tool drawer. Every tool that leaves the toolbar is now in the drawer (Space), at any drawer height.
