Render region
Render region limits raytracing to a rectangle over the view, and the rest of the view shows the normal viewport. Drag the handle below the rectangle, or its dashed frame, to move it, and drag its corners or edge handles to resize it; Shift keeps its proportions. A bar above the rectangle appears when the pointer is over it and sets the region’s resolution (full, half, quarter or eighth), pauses or resumes it, switches the outside between Unlit, Raster and Dim, and closes the region. A paused region keeps its image and turns grey if the view changes.
Artist pages and exhibitions
Artists with a Klay licence open their artist page from the Exhibitions tab and manage it on klaysculpt.com: their profile, an optional year of birth, and their exhibitions. Featured artists are shown in the gallery’s rail, and each exhibition shows its number of visitors.
More functions for buttons
The function picker offers 29 more functions for the sidebar, the viewport action bar and the radial menus. Display: Faceted shading, Wireframe, Ground grid, Orthographic, Raytracing, Cycle shading mode, Focus mode, X-ray selected and Viewport HUD. Symmetry: X, Y, Z, Radial and Edit symmetry plane. Object and levels: Align, Mirror +X / −X, Flip normals, Group, Ungroup, Unparent, Frame selected, Level up / down, Delete higher levels, Flatten levels and Tessellation. Also Export OBJ (highest level) and Add camera. Toggles light up while they are on.
Fog over the backplate
Composite volumetric renders the scene’s volumetric fog in front of a camera’s backplate image, so the plate sits inside the atmosphere instead of behind a flat layer. The plate’s Depth sets how much fog is in front of it. Applies in Raytrace shading with scene fog enabled.
Improved
Color correct v3
Color correct now works much like Lightroom’s develop panel. Sections follow Lightroom’s order: Light, Curve, Color, Grading, Effects, Detail and Grain. Clarity, Structure and Dehaze now take the whole image into account, so local contrast stays free of halos around large forms and Dehaze adapts to the haze in the frame. Clarity and Structure also accept negative values, which soften the image. Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, Blacks, Temp, Vibrance and Saturation use Lightroom-style responses, and readouts show signed values from −100 to +100. Shift-drag a slider for fine adjustment; after clicking a slider, the Up and Down arrow keys nudge it while the pointer stays over it. The Shadows, Midtones and Highlights wheels are unchanged.
Shortcuts: swap Ctrl and Alt, mouse buttons
Swap Ctrl and Alt exchanges the two keys everywhere: every Ctrl shortcut becomes Alt and every Alt shortcut becomes Ctrl, including Ctrl-click to invert a brush and Alt + drag to navigate. Any shortcut can also be set to the middle mouse button or the side buttons (Mouse 4 and 5), for example to open the radial hub with the middle button. A mouse button already used by a navigation chord is refused.
Curve tool: end tapers, profile grid
Taper start and Taper end now narrow each end of a curve separately, each with its own length. The profile editor has an adjustable grid that points can snap to; hold Shift while dragging to place a point freely. The shortcut that removes a point can be changed in the Shortcuts tab.
Stamp & Falloff: shape, then spacing
The Stroke section is now part of Stamp & Falloff, ordered by the choices you make. Shape is Procedural (Circular, Box or Crease, each with its own settings below it) or Alpha. A single Spacing slider replaces the Polywire switch, Spaced stamps and Bead spacing: its far-left zone is Polywire, the smooth swept line, with its settings shown below it; the next zone is Continuous, a line of overlapping dabs; further right the shape is printed that far apart, in percent of the brush size, for every shape, up to ten times the brush size. Imprint, Direction and Dynamics follow, and the other technical stroke settings are grouped in Advanced stroke. Dynamics now has Taper start next to Taper end; Taper end works on polygon meshes: the stroke trails the cursor by the taper length and finishes it to a point after you release, and the Spacing preview shows the loaded alpha and every Dynamics setting. Each setting has an information button that explains it. Existing brushes keep their previous behaviour.
Pen pressure
Poly brushes have a Pen pressure section. Size, Strength, Hardness, Smooth and Elastique each have a switch, a range from a light touch to a full press, and their own response curve. Settings › Tablet adds an app-wide pressure curve, a threshold below which nothing is drawn, a full-at point and pressure smoothing. Existing brushes keep their previous response.
Brush cursor settings
A Brush cursor section sets the ring colours, the fade while stroking, the centre dot size and the system pointer. For brushes whose size follows pressure, the ring shows the light-touch size and a dotted ring the full-press size; a few dots keep the full-press size visible during a stroke.
Orbit around mouse point
A new navigation option orbits around the surface under the mouse when the orbit starts. Over empty space, the previous point is kept. It replaces Orbit around stroke point when turned on; F returns to the usual centre.
More than 8 lights
A scene is no longer limited to 8 lights. Raytrace lights the scene with every light; the viewport shades the first 8. Lights beyond the eighth do not use a projector Source, an IES profile or Raytrace caustics. The Lantern light list now shows every light without scrolling.
Lighting presets grow as you fill them
Presets and Scene presets always show complete rows, and a new row of empty slots appears as soon as one in the last row is used. A scene is no longer limited to 12 Scene presets.
Fixed
- After a Laser cut with Fill, the cap is now welded to the mesh, so smoothing across the cut no longer splits it open.
- When an update is available, its Download & install button now always stays visible at the bottom of the welcome screen, and long release notes scroll above it.
- With Raytrace on, changing the Room disk or a backdrop's parameters no longer makes the other objects disappear from the view.
- Enabling Coat, Emission, or Subsurface on a material in the Raytrace view no longer produces a brief bright flash before the image settles.
- Switching from Unlit back to Raytrace no longer occasionally drops instanced objects from the view.
- With symmetry on, Gizmo › Consider masking now poses each mirrored copy of the unmasked area about its own mirrored pivot, and a scale bead now scales along its own axis only.
- On a polygon mesh with symmetry on, including topology symmetry, Ctrl+left-drag rotation and Ctrl+right-drag scaling with a Grab brush now apply to the mirrored side as well.
- Holding X for a momentary Mask brush now switches instantly.
- On polygon meshes, alpha brushes with Imprint or Spaced stamps keep the full detail of the alpha and use the same strength scale as a stroke; non-square alphas keep their proportions, and stamps along a stroke no longer smear.
- With Orbit set to a mouse button without a modifier (for example the right button), pressing Shift during the orbit now snaps to the axis views.
- Exhibitions now show only the mouse pointer, even when a clay stamp was selected before entering, and open with the artist’s Smooth or Faceted normals setting instead of the visitor’s.
- In the Camera tool, the Converging notice shown while a capture waits for the Raytrace image now appears in the same place as the saved-capture notice, fully on screen.
