Mask brushes with sources and Fill
A mask brush can carry a stack of source layers that decide where it masks: surface measures such as Cavity, Slope, Height and Curvature, ray-traced ones such as Occlusion, Thickness, Contact and Light exposure, and Gradient, Noise, Pattern or an Image. Layers have a blend mode and an opacity, adjustment layers reshape the layers below them, and a Grading card adjusts the final result. Fill applies the brush to the whole mesh, the visible side or the selection in one click.
Per-pixel Boolean preview
The Boolean live preview can cut each object pixel by pixel along the intersection, so the cut edge matches the applied result instead of following whole triangles. The cut follows sculpting on either object as it happens, and a Sharpness setting trades edge detail for memory. The inside of a Subtract is lit, shadows follow the cut, and the settings are kept between sessions.
Sidebar tabs on both sides of the window
Right-click a tab and choose Dock to left or Dock to right to move it to a second panel on the other side of the window. That panel can keep one tab open at its bottom, be shortened from its bottom edge, or be dragged out to float. The layout is kept between sessions.
Klay and Community libraries
The asset library has two online sources beside your own assets: Klay, with official assets, and Community, with assets shared by Klay artists. Get adds an asset to your library under Downloaded.
Alpha grading
A Grading card under the alpha stamp remaps the alpha's values without editing the image, with a brightness curve, Levels, Brightness, Contrast, Gamma and Invert. The settings are saved with the brush, and the cursor preview shows the result.
Preserve edge
A Preserve edge slider keeps a stroke on the face it started on, so Flatten, Polish and the other brushes can cross a hard edge without rounding it. 0 turns it off.
Stroke curves (early work)
A Curve group under a mesh's layers records each stroke made while it is selected as an editable curve. Drag its dots to reshape the stroke, hold B or M to change its size or intensity, and right-click a curve to bake it into a sculpt layer.
Invert brush
An Invert brush switch in the Brush section makes a brush work inverted, as if Ctrl were held: a brush that adds material now carves. Holding Ctrl flips it back. The setting is saved with the brush.
Override unlit material
Override unlit in a material's right-click menu makes every object use that material in Fast Unlit; the other shading modes keep each object's own material. The material menu now shows an icon beside each command.
Improved
Remesh is now Voxelize, with even quads
Remesh is renamed Voxelize; its shortcut is unchanged. It now builds an even quad grid, similar to ZBrush DynaMesh, without shading rings on smooth shapes and with about half the polygons at the same Resolution. Project detail back places the original detail on a new sculpt layer.
Boolean Union merges any number of meshes
The Boolean panel has a new layout: the operation comes first, then the mesh that is kept, then the meshes it is combined with. Union accepts any number of meshes, added with Pick meshes, Add selected, or by pressing D with several meshes selected. Subtract and Intersect still use two meshes. The panel now matches the width of the sidebar.
Sidebar tabs and view buttons
The sidebar tabs are a row at the top of the panel: the current tab is named and opens a list of every tab, and the others sit beside it as icons. Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+0 open the tabs in order. The view buttons have their own strip beside the sidebar, which can be reordered, edited and moved to the other side.
Mask is a toolbar mode
Mask sits in the toolbar's mode row between Polygone and Paint. Tap X to switch to Mask and back, or hold X to mask only while it is held; Tab and the number keys work as in the other modes. Fill and Preview tiles sit beside the slots.
Brush cursor on the surface
The brush cursor lies on the surface at the size the brush deposits; it can wrap the surface, sit flat or stay a screen circle, and a brush with an alpha can show the alpha's shape. The Brush cursor settings are regrouped into Shape, Motion, Guides and Tessellation.
Ray tracing for heavy scenes
In Raytrace, each part of a mesh is traced at the detail it needs for its distance from the camera, so large scenes fit in GPU memory without leaving meshes out. Finer detail loads in the background shortly after the camera stops.
Focus: display modes for the rest of the scene
The Focus card has a Display section with the outliner's display modes: Shaded, Dither, X-ray, Fill, Wireframe and Bounds. Every object outside the selection takes that look while Focus is on.
Rounded colour picker
The colour picker is now a rounded square with a draggable hue handle, and pure white and the full hue can be picked from its top corners. The ten saved colours are kept between sessions and across updates.
Card contrast
A Card contrast slider in Settings › Theme makes cards and sub-cards stand out more from the panel. At 0 % the interface looks as before.
Smoother Gizmo moves
Moving, rotating and scaling with the Gizmo runs at a steadier frame rate, without the periodic stutter.
Smoother pen orbit
Orbiting, panning and zooming with a pen is now as smooth as with a mouse. The Pen navigation card in Settings › Tablet sets the amount, and on Wacom tablets Klay requests the highest report rate.
Grab: push along the normal, scale and twist
On a poly Grab brush, Ctrl with the left button pushes the area along the surface normal, Ctrl with the middle button scales it and Ctrl with the right button twists it. The combinations can be changed in the Shortcuts tab.
Several Brush tab sections open
Opening a section in the Brush tab no longer closes the others. Each section stays open or closed as you leave it.
One Advanced stroke card
The poly brush Advanced section is now part of the Advanced stroke card in Stamp & Falloff, as the Plane ops, Plane sampling, Hard edges and Crease sub-cards. Refresh every N dabs moved to Build-up.
Tessellation Share values covers every setting
Share values in the Tessellation section now applies to every tessellation setting, including Sizing, Follow creases and the limits. When it is off, each brush keeps its own values. The Shift smoothing brush has a Custom values switch that keeps its own settings even while values are shared.
Smooth / Faceted button
The Smooth / Faceted function can be added to the sidebar buttons or to the action bar above the drawer. The button shows a circle in Smooth and a triangle in Faceted, and a click switches between them.
Outliner expand arrow stays in place
In compact mode, the arrow that expands an object card now stays where you clicked it, and the thumbnail appears to its right. The arrow points right when closed and down when open, like the other arrows in the outliner.
MatCap materials react to scene lights
In PBR Fast, PBR and Raytrace, MatCap materials are now lit and shadowed by the scene lights; Fast Unlit still shows the plain matcap. Light and Shadows sliders in the MatCap section set the amount.
Ambient occlusion default
The Ambient occlusion section has Set as default and Reset buttons, like the Volumetric and Weather sections. Set as default stores the current values; new scenes and new launches start from them, and Reset returns to them.
Curve ends extend by dragging
Each free end of a curve now shows an arrow that follows the direction of the curve. Click it to add one point, or drag it to extend the curve along the arrow with evenly spaced points.
Curves for edge modelling: Linear, Rings at dots, Flat profile
Linear makes every segment of a curve straight, with a hard corner at each point. Rings at dots places a ring on every point, with a set number of rings per span between them, so the points act as holding edges under subdivision. The Flat profile, or any profile whose points lie on one line, now builds a single open sheet instead of two overlapping surfaces.
Asset library sections on a side rail
The asset library now lists its sections in a rail on the left, grouped under Sculpt, Shade and Light, with the number of items in each. The tab row above the grid has been removed, and the window is wider to make room for the rail.
Retopology Sharp: Reset to default
In Sharp mode, the Retopology window has a Reset to default button below the settings. It returns Target quads and the other Sharp settings to their default values.
Fixed
- Boolean: the live preview no longer hides random patches of the model.
- Boolean: a model and its duplicate could not be combined. Selecting an object and its copy now runs the Boolean, and other copies of the same object are left unchanged.
- Boolean: the live preview stayed on the shape from before a stroke. It now updates while either object is sculpted or reshaped.
- Boolean: the panel keeps its two operands when they are deselected, and a new two-object selection replaces the operands left over from an earlier session.
- Pen pressure: with pressure on Size, the brush cursor now shows the largest size a stroke can reach, and strokes no longer grow past it.
- Tessellation: Subdivide all scrambled the UVs and seams of a mesh, which could throw vertices off the surface on the next Decimate all or stroke. UVs and seams are now kept.
- Outliner: Filter scene did not find objects inside a collapsed group. It now searches every group.
- Object display: a Dither object that was selected or hovered lost the colour picked for it. The Dither tint now holds under the selection highlight and the Focus dim, as X-ray already did.
- Convert to poly left an unnamed copy of the shape that undo could not remove. The poly mesh is now named after the clay layer, which is hidden rather than deleted.
- Convert to poly could leave most of the new mesh invisible, with only its wireframe and a small patch of surface showing. The whole mesh now draws.
- Leaving a freeze sculpt without making a change could crash the app. It now returns to the clay layer as expected.
- With a MatCap material, the viewport stayed in PBR and Fast Unlit or PBR Fast could not be selected. Every view mode can now be selected.
- MatCap: Blender .exr matcaps did not load in Images mode. They now load, and the 27 matcaps from Blender 5.3 are included.
- Tessellation: with Follow creases on, repeated strokes over the same area could leave lumps and spikes on the surface. Follow creases now only lines the edges up along the bend and no longer adds detail on it.
- Tessellation: starting a stroke while the quick undo strip was stepping back could crash the app.
- Sidebar on the left: the viewport readouts (view, lens, FPS, recording, render progress) stayed at the bottom left, under the sidebar. They now move to the bottom right.
- Subdivision levels: stepping down a level reshaped the lower levels even without sculpting. Lower levels now change only where you sculpted.
- Curve: undo after Bake removed the curve. Undo now restores the editable curve.
- Grab and Elastique brushes cut off sharply at the edge of the brush circle and jumped in steps on long drags, and with symmetry a pull across the middle doubled up. The pull now fades smoothly and stays continuous.
- Clay Grab no longer jumps in steps on a long drag, and Clay Elastique no longer stops pulling past the brush circle.
- Material Bindings and other capsule buttons could turn into a solid highlight after switching or adding a set. The selected button now keeps its normal look.
- Lattice: on a duplicated object, the cage could appear away from the object and did not deform it. It now fits and deforms the duplicate.
- Camera tool: orbiting and moving the view in Raytrace was slower than with the tool off. It now runs at the same speed.
- Navigation: with Orbit around mouse point on, orbiting and zooming now centre on the surface under the cursor.
- Navigation: with Arcball and Trackball off, Orbit around stroke point and Orbit around mouse point made the view jump and spin away. Orbiting now turns around the point without jumping.
- Combine selected turned quad meshes into triangles. The combined mesh now keeps the quads and polygons of each object.
