New
Stroke deposit engine 2.0
Polygon brushes stroke up to five times faster on models of 20 million polygons and more. Every brush benefits.
Face, edge and vertex selection
The Select tool card picks Object, Face, Edge or Vertex from a row of icons; holding V with the Select tool opens a wheel with the same choices. Drag on the model to paint a selection, or from empty space to draw a rectangle or lasso. Selected edges and vertices are drawn in the selection colour.
Soft selection measures its falloff over the surface, with an editable falloff curve and a Range of up to ten times the model's size.
Improved
Clay and rake brushes updated
The Clay Hard, Clay Buildup, Wet slab and Rake Dry brushes have been updated and now use Dynamic by topology for their Smooth operator, so they keep the same feel on light and very dense meshes.
Stroke direction controls
Ignore stroke reversal keeps a print's orientation when a stroke goes back over the same line, so a box no longer turns around at each change of direction. Smoothing sets how far the brush travels before the print turns, which keeps it steady along a nearly straight line.
Dynamic smoothing by topology
A new Dynamic by topology option for the Smooth operator of polygon brushes adjusts the smoothing to the mesh density under the brush, so a brush keeps the same feel from a light mesh to tens of millions of polygons. When it is on, the Smooth value is the one used on a 20-million-polygon mesh and the row reads Smooth (dynamic). Low boost and Max boost add smoothing at the light and dense ends of the range.
Finer spacing
The first half of the Spacing slider now covers 1 to 10 % of the brush size in steps of 0.1 %; the second half goes from 10 to 1000 %.
Finer deposit step
The Deposit step of polygon brushes now goes down to 0.001 of the brush radius, shown with three decimals, and the low end of its slider has more travel for small values.
Armature tool card (in progress)
The Armature tool is still in progress, and its card and behaviour may change in coming versions. The Armature tool card shows the five modes as icons, Build, Pose and Angle for the skeleton and Select and Bone for pins, with a line describing the current mode's gestures. Joint size, bone shape, pose physics, pin physics, part materials and the live skin are now in the card, along with Bake skin to a new layer. A new Tap drops setting chooses whether a plain tap in Build places a ball or a hinge; Shift places the other one.
Lattice: selection and mask
The Lattice card has two new options. Use Face / Edge / Vertex moves only the faces, edges or vertices selected with the Select tool, and Use mask keeps the masked part of the model in place. Make the selection or mask before switching to Lattice.
Subdivision level in the compact outliner
In compact mode, each polygon mesh row shows its current and highest subdivision level, for example 2/6. Scroll over it, or click its left or right side, to change level; at the highest level the right side adds a subdivision.
Fixed
- Typing in the toolbar drawer's search now also finds the tools of the Tools section, such as Select, Move and Gizmo.
- Typing T in the toolbar drawer's search no longer switches to full screen.
- A polygon brush with a Box shape and Spacing set to Continuous now deposits a box instead of a rounded stroke.
- Brushes with a Box stamp keep the round cursor. The square cursor returns with Square ring for box brushes and Show the alpha as the stamp shape both turned on in Settings > Brush cursor.
- On very dense meshes, Elastique and other brushes with Reach set to Topology no longer stop at a hard edge inside their falloff.
- Duplicates of a polygon mesh no longer render with holes in Path Tracing after the original is edited, and they keep their outliner thumbnail.
- Faces moved with the Select tool's gizmo no longer disappear during the drag.
- Hovering a joint or bone with the Armature tool no longer flickers; it is outlined like an object under the Select tool, and Ctrl over a joint in Build shows the Select tool's red deselect outline.
- Armatures can be deleted from the outliner, with the right-click menu or the Delete key. An armature row now has its own icon, and its skin is listed as its own row just below it.
- The Armature tool now follows symmetry: adding, connecting, removing, resizing, freezing and posing a joint also applies to its mirrored joint.
